How to Begin a Residency

1) Look at the supporting materials to get a sense of the way the program works and jot down any questions you might like to ask. Browse through a list of Directory Artists and review the artist(s) you may want to work with in a residency.

2) Contact the artist(s) directly to see how you can work together.
Topics to discuss with the artist(s) include:

  • Residency ideas or themes
  • School/site setting
  • Artist’s availability for a residency
  • Artist’s fees, travel expenses, material costs, etc.

3) Can’t decide on an artist? Contact Holly Nowak, AIE Partnership Director, to get suggestions on which artist(s) might work well at your site. Holly can also answer your questions and help you set up a Planning Meeting for your residency.

4) Submit a Residency Request Form with a narrative description of the project to the Arts Council of Erie using the following schedule as a guide:

Residency to take place:
January 1 thru June 30
July 1 thru December 31

Submit the Request Form by:
November 1
May 1
