Plan a Residency

When you begin to plan a residency, a great deal of information must be exchanged between the artist and the collaborating organization. From the ‘big picture’ to the ‘pragmatic particulars’ much will need to be communicated.

Once you have selected an artist for the residency set up a Planning Meeting to discuss this information. The planning meeting should include, but not be limited to, the Principal or Administrator, the collaborating teacher(s), PTA member(s), school board member(s) and the Artist. Planning is the key ingredient in collaborating a successful residency experience. With the guidance of the artist, your teachers and staff design the residency to meet the unique needs of your school or organization.

The Artist Residency program provides public education institutions with an outlet to meet the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Arts & Humanities requirements. Under the new standards, every student is required to have planned instruction in art, music, dance, theatre, and humanities.
