United Arts Fund Drive Overview

What is the United Arts Fund Drive?
In existence since 1967, the United Arts Fund Drive is a united annual solicitation by the Arts Council of Erie to provide financial support for the larger arts organizations in Erie County. The campaign solicits businesses, foundations, individuals and governments for their support of the arts.

Why support it?
All of the organizations funded through the United Arts Fund Drive provide year-round programming to the community, whether through performances and exhibits or through other venues, such as schools and social service agencies. These arts organizations rely on the drive as a significant source of their non-earned income. It allows them to:

  • keep ticket prices affordable
  • offer free performances and exhibits
  • present arts education programs to our children, the disabled and seniors
  • provide quality arts programming throughout the year

instead of worrying about keeping the lights on and the doors open! With the current economy, the role of the United Arts Fund Drive is even more important. Public and private support has always been necessary to enable the arts to exist.

Who benefits from the United Arts Fund?
The following organizations receive funding for general operating support through the United Arts Fund Drive: Dafmark Dance Theater, Erie Art Museum, Erie Philharmonic, Erie Playhouse, expERIEnce Children’s Museum, Lake Erie Ballet and the Roadhouse Theatre for Contemporary Art.

In turn, we all benefit from the United Arts Fund. The arts are a key ingredient in the economic vitality of our region. THe arts generate business and tourism in Erie, providing self-sustaining proceeds and employment opportunities. Everyone can enjoy the arts and the higher quality of living they provide. In Supporting the arts today, you're insuring that they'll be here for future generations.

When does the campaign run?
The public portion runs from February 1, 2007 to February 28, 2007. However, contributions will be accepted until the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2007.

How much money was raised last year?
The 2006 United Arts Fund Drive raised over $350,000.
